My Top 5 Harry Potter Fan Fiction

I’m an avid reader and I spend a lot of my free time reading all sorts of books and stories. I also spent a lot of nights falling asleep only to have my kindle fall on my face to remind me I was reading. That being said, one of my favorites is fan fiction. Specifically Harry Potter / Hogwarts World fan fiction.

There are a lot of them out there. I discovered Fanfiction.com (and their abundance of HP stories) only a couple of years ago and fell completely into their hold. Fair warning to those of you who haven’t come across them or other sites like fanfiction.com, there are stories (HP and other pop culture) of every genre. Also note that some of the stories out there are wonderfully written, while others will make you cringe in their lack of writing abilities (those writers are trying, but it’s still really hard to read).

One of my favorite fan fiction genres out there is the Severitus Fiction, or when Severus Snape is either the real Father or adopted Father or something to that nature to Harry. Here are my top 5 favorites:

  1. Moment Of Impact (Series) by Suite Sambo // Yes. Series. This 5 story series also includes Tuesday With Severus (5), A Summer Of Flotsam and Jetsam (4), One Man’s Island (3), Regards, Harry (2) and Moment Of Impact (1). Out of the five, A Summer Of Flotsam and Jetsam is probably my favorite and most read. The whole series starts after the 5th year for Harry and the Gang, but Summer begins right after Voldemort’s final fall. Snape survives the snake bite and with Harry spend the summer getting physically, emotionally and mentally healthy. Snape is a bit out of character, but not too much for those of you who might not like him not being his snarky, lovely self. It’s definitely a read for those of us who wanted our Potions Professor to survive and have a more positive impact on Harry’s life.
  2. Fixing Past Mistakes by DebsTheSytherinSnapefan // If you are okay with Dumbledor bashing or at least painting him in a negative light, then you’ll love this story. Fixing Past Mistakes takes a turn with time-travel and allowing Snape raise his beloved’s child as his own away from influences of Britain’s Wizarding World. I wouldn’t say that Snape is out of character in this one. I’d say that because of what he chooses to do (ie raise Harry as his own, not spend years mourning the loss of Lily and not allowing his guilt take a hold of his persona), his personality also changes as the years go. I like this story because this is what I would love to have happen to Harry (and Snape). Side note: She has a sequel: Growing Legacy which she, at this moment, is working on.
  3. Snape’s Invisible Friend by teacherbev // Taken from her own summary, Snape’s Invisible Friend is about “Harry rescues himself as a baby and chooses Snape as his protector, why no one knows because the toddler isn’t telling and no one can see him but Snape.” It is such a cute short story with only 11 chapters. It’s such a good and quick read!
  4. Heart Of The Guardian by thewandcrafter // This story starts with Snape going over everything in his life that led up to him slouch against the wall, readying himself to die from Nagini’s bite. It goes on to tell the tale of his survival and how he and Harry begin to mentally heal from each of their own battles. Their summer together progresses into mentorship with the eventual adoption.
  5. Harry’s New Home by kbinnz // This is a sequel to her one-shot “Harry’s First Detention” but I find that you really don’t need to read that one if you wanted to. This one of the five has Snape being more out of character. He is still a bit snarky and a tad bit mean, but Harry and his friends (and Draco) are far more out of character than expected. It’s a cute story of Harry and Snape slowly envolving into a father and pre-teen son dynamic. Add in the Weasley’s as their extended family (I love it when one of the boys say ‘Uncle Sev’) and you’ve got some great side stories. My favorite is probably the Umbridge storyline.

It was hard for me to choose my top five. There are so many other Servitus stories I have in my saved account. So if you like these stories and what to know more, let me know. Also, if you want my favorites for other genres like Snarry or stories involving other characters, check back ‘cause I’ll post about them soon!

Until next time, 안녕히 가세요, jane*
